Seawatch, 19 October 2015

Counter Tom Reed had his work cut out for him Monday, but the flyby Pacific Loon was a nice treat. Monday proved to be the largest flight at the Avalon Seawatch so far this season, with 44,586 birds. The single-day record for Double-crested Cormorants was broken with 25,217 birds. The previous DCCO single-day record was 24,637 set on November 12, 2008. Also worth noting was the first big push of Black Scoters, with 3,234 birds, which is over half of all the Black Scoters we have seen since the season began! 17,231 Scoter Sp were tallied all day. A big thank you to Scott McConnell for his help and all-day company! Seawatch is definitely heating up, come check us out at the new location between 8th & 9th street in Avalon!
