Seawatch - Thursday, October 5, 2017

The south winds continued yesterday and migration was slowed to a crawl. Although low in numbers, I still had a great time at the count! There seemed to be a fun or new bird every hour or so, and couple that with the lovely visitors that stopped by periodically, the day flew by (kindof). Highlights of the day included many a Parasitic Jaeger flying north and wreaking havoc along the way, the first Great Cormorant of the season, and a late-season Whimbrel.

Bottlenose Dolphins were around the jetty and inlet for almost the entire day.

A Whimbrel flying by in the morning.

Our first Great Cormorant of the count this year.

A Parasitic Jaeger (left) dives down after the fish bits that it forced
this young Laughing Gull (right) to cough up.
Doug Gochfeld gets a closer look at the Parasitic Jaeger show.
