Hey folks following a wonderfully active flight on Friday, there has been two slower days including today. The migrational behaviors of all bird groups and species has been really interesting over this weekend, not to mention the Monarch show has been great, even with many butterflies being in evidence at the Higbee dike. On Friday, Monarchs were very high up early in the morning.
It looks like many avian and insect fliers took advantage of good northerly tail-winds at high altitude and calmer conditions lower down. That difference creates a wind shear effect that seems to serve as an attractant to high-altitude migration for all these flying critters.
The Saturday and Sunday lists are light on the numbers but perhaps many migrants were too high to be detected? Also, a Connecticut warbler provided a well-needed highlight today.
