Seawatch - Monday & Tuesday, October 9-10, 2017

Another couple of slow days with southerly winds, although Tuesday began more northerly before switching to the southeast.  Monday was perhaps the slowest day of the season thus far, with no migrating cormorants tallied, and only a single Common Tern and Blue-winged Teal to keep things mildly interesting.

However, Tuesday picked up the pace quite a bit in comparison to the last week, with over 400 scoters, some flocks being accompanied by Blue-winged or Green-winged Teal.  Another 700 comorants officially put us over 10,000 for the season! Other highlights include over 400 Laughing Gulls making their way south, 13 Parasitic Jaegers, a Great Cormorant, some Peregrine Falcons and even a Northern Harrier, 28 American Oystercatchers, a few bats, many butterflies of several species, and even an Eastern Meadowlark that flew in off the ocean and landed in the dunes behind the shack!  Suffice to say, it was a varied day that kept things interesting throughout.
