Seawatch - Friday, October 20, 2017

Today was a relatively slow day dominated by north winds, but the clear skies and warm temperatures made for a pleasant day, at least for the people participating in the Fall Festival.  There was a good smattering of dabbling ducks mixed in with a pretty even 50-50 split of Surf and Black Scoters.  One White-winged Scoter put on a good show for our Triple Play trolley tour.  A small push of egrets was also notable, as well a around 150 gannets.

The highlight of the day was not just a Cory's Shearwater, but a close Cory's Shearwater that sat on the water and chased baitfish with the gulls for an hour at the end of the 8th Avenue jetty!  Photos can be seen on my eBird checklist here: https://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S40036573

Tomorrow is forecasted to be northeast in the morning and southeast winds by the afternoon; so it should be a good day!
