Seawatch - Monday, October 2nd, 2017

Cormorants and scoters passed by in waves today.  They came in decent numbers, albeit fewer than yesterday, but there were considerable gaps of time between flocks at some points of the day, making the day feel awfully slow.  As usual, the afternoon late and southeast winds made for some fantastic viewing of scoter flocks.

A flock of Black Scoter passing by, with Sea Isle in the distance.

A smattering of shorebirds, including Dunlin, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Black-bellied Plover migrated south past the Seawatch today.  A couple Golden-crowned Kinglet flew in off the ocean, and around 3000 Tree Swallow circled around for 10 or 15 minutes before heading south.  An early flock of 9 Brant flew directly over the beach, giving excellent views.

The Brant flew so close, I could only capture 3 out of 9 with my camera!

With wind being 10 MPH out of the east tomorrow, I expect a continued movement of scoters and cormorants, hopefully even better then today!  What else lies in store?  Another shearwater?  Find out tomorrow!
