Hawkwatch - Saturday, October 7, 2017

Yellow-rumped Warblers are beginning to fill the morning skies. A few Palm Warblers and two Cape May Warblers were mixed in with these Butterbutts. Within moments after sunrise a Peregrine Falcon was seen ripping south over the ocean. One Osprey followed suit as a small flurry of Sharp-shinned Hawks were flying by to the north. We racked up 72 Peregrine Falcons today from the hawkwatch in addition to good diversity of other raptors and songbirds alike. One uncommon (for the area) Clay-colored Sparrow put on a brief but outstanding show this afternoon. Bobert, the local Northern Bobwhite that lives around the hawkwatch, also made an appearance which drew quite the crowd!

Tomorrow is the annual Cape May Big Sit, taking place right at the Cape May Hawkwatching platform. Hope to see you there!
