Morning Flight, 23-24 September 2015

Northeast winds keep a'comin and a'comin.  These winds were calm last night, however, and could account for the today's uptick in numbers and more obvious morning flight behavior since the previous two mornings.  A decent showing, and most of today's count of warblers were traveling southwest to northeast and quite high, maybe 300-1000 feet up.  As the days travel out of the peak time for many neotropical migrants we hope to catch a few more high-diversity situations before mid-October onslaught of Yellow-rumped Warbler appears.  Palm Warbler daily counts should continue to rise starting now, and many other species can continue to migrate in good numbers such as Black-throated Blue and Blackpoll Warblers.  I know that the many excited and gracious visitors up to the dike will hope for this and much more-- like for say a decent look at a Connecticut Warbler in flight-- there's always something to shoot for!
