Morning Flight - Monday, September 17, 2018

It was a tranquil morning on the dike today with cloudy skies and southeast winds, but these “calm before the storm” days are generally expected before a front rolls through as one is forecasted to do on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (get here if you can for Wednesday!).

Just a handful of warblers were seen. American Redstarts and Northern Parulas took first and second place with 12 and 5 northbound individuals, respectively. The diversity highlights were migrating Belted Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and a Wilson’s Snipe that zipped south past the dike, but things were largely quiet otherwise. Tuesday morning may or may not be a washout, but we’re looking forward to Wednesday!

As always, you can find the link to the official count on Trektellen here and the complete eBird checklist here.

Bring on Day 49!
