Hawkwatch - Sunday & Monday September 16-17, 2018

The past two days of hawkwatching have been filled with daybreaking excitement of many raptors. Sunday morning's skies started off with notes of deep gray and violet. The feeling of migration was in the air. Flurries of American Kestrels danced over the Cape May Lighthouse, each one fighting for a turn to perch on the tallest points. Merlin darted after each other, covering the length of the parking lot in a matter of seconds. Osprey migrated from the north as well as over the ocean. The Cape May migrational chaos was in full effect, and it was beautiful!

A few Sharp-shinned Hawks mingled with the daily flights of Osprey and Merlin. The seasonally-increasing Red-tailed Hawks and Bald Eagles were seen in small numbers too. There's no place around like watching the raptor migration at Cape May.
