Avalon Seawatch, 23 November 2016

The morning at Avalon boasted clear skies and steady bird flight.  Over 6,000 birds were recorded before noon!  The primary species observed today were northern gannet, double-crested cormorant, and red-throated loon, with about 2,000 individuals recorded of each species.  A visit from a peregrine falcon, a nice flight of bufflehead, and a friendly snow bunting made today a pleasant day at the seawatch.  A notable moment from the day was observing a very large pod of nearly 40 dolphins hanging out around the bell buoy! 
Total, we observed 9,179 birds today.  Take a look at the chart below to see the specifics for the day and the season!
