Sea Watch Thursday October 21, 2010

Today didn't see as strong a flight as yesterday, but it was still entertaining. Several groups of some of the less common (from Seawatch) Dabbling Ducks made appearances, both alone and in the company of Scoters. A steady (but not heavy) movement of Gannets, Terns, and Gulls throughout the day kept things interesting during the lulls between Scoter flocks, and they included 2 Bonaparte's Gulls, along with 5 non-Forster's Sterna Terns that it would have been nice to get a longer look at.

The species highlight of the day was a Red-necked Grebe which flew by well offshore early in the day. 2 Horned Grebes flying by at the same time were also the first of the season here, and a Bufflehead soon after was the second of the season (with the first having been yesterday). A juvenile Brown Pelican was seen heading NW (i.e. the wrong way).

4,817 Individuals were counted today.
