Morning Flight - 7 October 2013

Morning Flight had it's second day of exclusively southbound birds, but far less than yesterday. It was a mixed drizzle at times with breaks of sun, but the windy conditions and unfavorable weather kept most of them at bay from moving about. The exciting part of the morning which lasted a couple hours were the seabirds filing out of the bay.

Over 500 Black Scoters with a few dozen Surf Scoters moved out with Double-crested Cormorants mixed in. A small flock of Wigeon moved south along the bay with a single Green-winged Teal. 17 Parasitic Jaegers left the bay just beyond the red buoy (over a mile away from the dike) marking the Intercoastal Waterway. Michael O'Brien counted 53 Parasitic Jaegers out in the rips this morning from Coral Avenue. It was a very interesting morning, and I'm looking forward to the next few days!! A cold front is currently giving us some much needed rain; it will ring in a very good day tomorrow with beezy NNW-NNE winds.
