Yesterday's weather was two fold; sultry hot in the early afternoon at the hawkwatch and cold and breezy in the evening on beaches further north. Fog lingered throughout the night leaving a very muggy sunrise the next morning. An adult Peregrine Falcon stood watch over Higbees like the Dark Knight in the rising sun. Interesting at first, but more evident a half hour into the survey that a majority of the birds flying were heading south. It was a great flight of Yellow-rumped Warblers up high to the west over the dike with a few other birds mixed in. An adult Red-headed Woodpecker perched out giving good views to everyone up top, and eventually flew around us a couple times trying to figure out where it was going. Today was the first day a good flight of Scoters flew by- 56 Surf Scoters and 133 Black Scoters.
