Raptor Observations:
Slow and steady movement of accipiters, with a small hit of buteos during the midday hours. A dark juv. Swainson's Hawk made a brief appearance well to the N during the early-PM, and was captured by banders at the Mag. Plant a few minutes later.

Morning Flight - 22 October 2013

Light migration conditions last night produced far fewer birds than yesterday, and with the light south winds a majority of the flight was southbound migrants. Hopefully with the passage of this cold front it will bring another great day to the dike- the cold temperatures, not so much...

They started to pump dredge spoils up top the dike in the past couple of days, finally bringing more waders in- 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 19 Dunlin, and 9 Killdeer.

Morning Flight - 21 October 2013

Finally, a good flight day with excellent lighting! Kinglets were very strong throughout, initially Golden-crowns dominated but then petered out, while Ruby-crowned Kinglets continued to fly to the very end. Blue-headed Vireos flew out, some very close. And lastly I was very excited to see a Yellow-billed Cuckoo fly out shortly with a lot of tail molt, but thought better of being out in the open and quickly ducked back into the trees.

There were lots of Red-bellied Woodpeckers this morning,
but they returned to the trees in Higbees.

Dark-eyed Juncos are finally starting to fly out with
consistency, hope to have a big day of these! 

There was 329 Ruby-crowned Kinglets flying out from the dike
this morning, 610 kinglets all told- luckily most of them
 fly low and close for identification but Ruby's tend to fly
high and out, unlike they Golden-crowned brothers and sisters.
