It was a great day at the Seawatch, with clear skies and mild temperatures teaming up with a strong and diverse flight for early October. Highlights among 11,288 counted birds included the season's first Northern Shoveler, Common Eider, Red-breasted Merganser and Redhead, the last of which a lovely (and quite early) adult male that was picked out by Matt Jewell. Other notables included another strong movement of Double-crested Cormorant (8,357), an alternate-plumage Red-throated Loon, a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron flying south with two Great Blue Herons, and our first real scoter flight, with about 1,500 individuals counted.
