Seawatch - Friday & Saturday, November 10-11, 2017

These past two days have brought chilling, below freezing temperatures on northwest winds.  Friday was terribly quiet, with fewer than 3000 birds.  Saturday picked up the pace a bit, with around 8000 birds.  Hopefully this cold weather is pushing birds out of the north, and they will be heading by over the next couple of days!

The most notable event from Friday was the first push of Buffleheads, with almost 200 in the first hour before coming to a crawl.  Saturday was much better, with a good push of nearly 1700 Red-throated Loons.  At one time over 200 Red-throated Loons passed by in a minute.  Scoters continued to push, mostly Black Scoters, as well as plenty of unidentified "Dark-winged Scoters" thanks to the poor viewing conditions caused by the cold air meeting the warmer water.  I also had the first Snow Bunting of the season fly over, calling.
