Today was quite slow for the date at the seawatch, with only 2009 migrants counted. Quite a few Northern Gannets were moving early, and a few Double-crested Cormorants were counted, but other than that the action was slow.
The bird of the day was a male Common Merganser that migrated past with a single Surf Scoter in the late afternoon. Common Mergansers are quite rare at the seawatch, so that made up for the slow day!
A local flock of birds has been hanging out around the jetty and today included: Surf, Black, and White-winged Scoters, Common Eiders, and a Common Loon. A Purple Sandpiper was also hanging out on the jetty today.
