Today was yet another day of good diversity (gotta love November at the Seawatch) at Avalon. The Hooded Merganser during the first hour was the first of the seawatch season, and 14 Ruddy Ducks were an interesting sight, as they sat on the Ocean briefly before moving on. Black Scoters were also present in their highest numbers of the season so far with Northern Pintails putting in their strongest showing in 3 weeks, and a Hairy Woodpecker flying in off the water was an interesting sight as well. Purple Sandpipers are finally habitating the rocky outcroppings around the inlet, with up to 8 seen together this afternoon.
