Morning Flight - 11 September 2012

Although the winds seemed promising for a continuation of yesterday's fast-paced flight, warbler numbers dropped off today (369 individuals of 16 species).  However, Red-breasted Nuthatches (157) were there to pick up the slack, flying in triple-digits for the first time since 8/29 (374).  The season total for Red-breasted Nuthatches is now up to 770.  Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (34 today, 16 yesterday) have also put in a good showing of late, after essentially disappearing following flights in mid- to late August.  The other notable highlight for the day was a single juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker that flew north high overhead.
