It was a largely tranquil morning at Higbee Beach today, since nearly all migratory activity took place on the treeline far to the east. Eight Common Nighthawks before sunrise garnered excitement (especially as a couple came close to forage over the impoundments).
As the sun rose, some American Robins began picking up on the treeline and making their way south. A sizeable pulse of ~1,200 Tree Swallows following closely on their heels halluxes kept me busy for a bit. The early robins were soon accompanied by a “light” but steady stream of them until around 8:50, and the flight concluded with a total of 690. Other than that, small numbers of all the usual suspects were present, nearly all headed south.
As always, you can find our official count totals on Trektellen here, and our complete eBird checklist of the day’s observations here.
Bring on the next day!
