Morning Flight - Wednesday, October 10, 2018

It was another relatively quiet, warm morning on the dike this morning. Most warblers observed today were pretty high, and nearly everything was headed south. However, one wet and bedraggled Blackpoll Warbler landed in the little walnut this morning. I wonder where it had flown in from?

Despite the slow conditons, there were (as always), a few highlights. Two Peregrines diving on a Yellow-rumped Warbler in flight, a Clay-colored Sparrow at the base of the observation platform, and 11 migrating Parasitic Jaegers out over the Delaware Bay (although a few paused their migration to harass some Forster’s Terns). Parasitic Jaegers can be seen from anywhere around Cape May Point in fall, and their peak movement past here is one of the great spectacles of CMBO’s Cape May Fall Festival, from Thursday, October 18 through Sunday, October 21! If you haven’t registered yet but are interested in coming, you can do that here.

As always, you can find our official count totals on Trektellen here, and our complete eBird checklist of the day’s observations here.

Bring on the next day!
