Morning Flight - Saturday, October 6, 2018

We had a nice movement of birds at Morning Flight continuing on the heels of yesterday’s good flight, which featured good numbers of Blackpolls, Yellow-rumps, Parulas, and Palm Warblers, 12 Purple Finches, and the first Rusty Blackbird of the fall, along with a host of other diversity.

Warbler numbers were much lighter today, as Blackpoll Warblers came in first place with 82 northbound birds. The (mostly audio) highlight of the morning was 6 Dickcissels, which ties September 19th for the most in a single day so far. We are at 37 birds for the season so far, and we’re just one northbound bird away from tying the third-best Dickcissel season for the official count! No photos today since showers were in the forecast this morning, and I didn't bring my camera up.

We have east and/or south winds in the forecast for the next 5 days, but birds are still flying, and I’ll still be counting!

As always, you can find our official count totals on Trektellen here, and our complete eBird checklist of the day’s observations here.

Bring on the next day!
