Monarch Monitoring Project - 9/30/08

THE MONARCHS ARE HERE!

Finally (after much waiting and looking towards to sky) the monarchs are arriving in Cape May in bulk. Today's surveys had the highest number of monarchs recorded all year! On his 9:00 survey run, Dick Walton counted more than 40 monarchs. The MMP was also able to tag in large numbers today. I personally tagged exactly 100 butterflies! It was an exciting personal achievement, and it gives us all hope that monarch numbers will continue to increase!

Check back soon for the official numbers from the weekly census. I just wanted to let everyone know that the monarchs have arrived, and they are most certainly welcome!
